Melbourne 2015

Its been ages since we had a family vacation. With a new member with the family, we tug Cik Wan along to our Melbourne trip.

We booked the tickets way back in May, knowing the price will jack up since its the peak period, Christmas and what not. We prepare for this trip a little earlier. We rent an 8 seater with Avis. Pick up the van at the aiport. Hussle free.

I did the itinerary, since I'm quite familiar with Melbourne.

The little sis, booked an afternoon flight and we reach Melbourne close to midnight. Totally wrong move but to be able to sleep and rest after the 7 hours flight was such a luxury. I cant sleep in the plane with the frequent air turbulence.

We grab Macdonald on the way back to our AirBnB. We booked a 3 bedroom apartment at Saltwater promenade. Happening jugak tempat dia, 5 mins drive from Target, Aldi, Coles, etc.
The next day we attacked factory outlet. We had chosen DFO south Warf but was inform DFO at Essedon have better store option and parking was FREE!!!! So I tweak the itinerary and head first to DFO Essedon. I try to control the moolahs. Its only the first day. After Essedon we went to South Warf to check out the stuffs there.

Next day we went to Queen Victoria Market. I have a soft spot for this place, but not to my sisters and Ny. 'Tempat apa ni you ajak kita? Pasar??' 'Mummy ni macam pasar geylang ajer?? I tak nak' Wah liow!!! Spoil Brats!!!!
We intend to head down to town after that but after a couple of rounds and the hefty parking fee we change our plan and head over to St Kilda's Luna Park. Its really a breath of fresh air. I love St Kilda! We head back to town and park at Federation square and had a yummy dinner at Mama Wong all also to check out the graffiti street.

We were recommended to go for the Werribee open range zoo. Oh we had so much fun!! Feeling mcm at Africa. We took the safari train ride, we were so close to the rhinos, and the zebra and the giraffe. My sis was expecting lions and tiger and elephant 'Ah that one later u go with your husband to Africa!'
Datok and Datin came 4 days after with the rest of the family. We pick them up at the airport, rest and head to Brighton Beach, to see the colourful beach house.

The next day we went for road trip to Great Ocean Road!!!! I love love that place and I'm glad to have share the experience with my love ones.

Melbourne Dec 2015

Song: Lets Love - Echosmith

The little sis has been complaining on the absence of family holiday. Since we have a cousin who will be having her second reception at Melbourne, kita cari chance to go too. The tickets and accommodation cost us a bomb due to peak period, tapi kita tutup mata ajer.

Video first, the rest later.

Paris 2015

We took the afternoon train to Paris. With a kid, a slack rolek husband, getting the 8am train seems impossible!!

We were early for our 1pm train. We bought a big box of fries with mayonnaise and some other sauces while waiting for the train.

I made friend with a Syrian lady and her baby Sara. She was sitting next to me at the stand. She was travelling with her husband to Paris for a short holiday. She mention that she's an English teacher in Saudi. S was 'siku-ing ' me. Its not that I am being friendly, but she was the one who start the conversation. Muslim to muslim, if she say 'Assalamualaikum' kita jawab lah balik. Tak kan nak diam ajer...

I query her about the situation at Syria which I had seen on TV, on social media. She start crying. Alamak.... I apologies and she start her story, how she managed to ran out of Syria. I try to steer out of topic and ask about her family. She told me she is married to a business man from Kuwait. Oh his husband, boleh tahan, handsome jugak si Arab ni.

S treat us to first class in eurorail. Love you many many babeh! After 3 hours we reach Paris. We book another Airbnb apartment with a great location at Montmarte. Its 10 minutes walk from Gare Du nord station, 3 minutes walk from Anvers station and rows and rows of souvenir shops at our door steps. The sacre Coeur was just round the corner. Gorgeous place to people watch. There is also a halal Paris version of KFC. We were in chicken heaven.

We spent a day at Eiffel tower. The best metro station to view the Eiffel will be at Tocorado. We made fren with a Malaysian student who belum balik beraya and kerja part time at one of the stand that sell sedap nak mampos nutella crepes with banana. The student said 'Aku balik KL aku bukak kedai, korang datang eh' Cepat mesra budak ni. Anak datok agaknya budak ni. She asked where we stay and ask if want to lepak, she can bring us around... But we need to pass as we will be out of central Paris the next day.

This is the first time we spent summer is Europe and we are loving it. The whole area is buzzing with life and FOOD!!!

We only spent 2 days in central Paris,  and the rest was spent at Disneyland Paris. This time round we book a hotel, Hipark Serris Val D'Europe. We could not find any airbnb around that area. The hotel was recommended by Aunty Chu, who gave good review just because it was so close to the factory outlet, shopping ajer budak tu, meyampah betol. Ok back on the hotel, The hotel was nice, location was good. Minus point is that the room all comes with a sofa bed instead of a real bed. We book 2 superior room, since they have safety policy whereby a superior room of that size can only accommodate 2 adults maximum. Nak tak nak terpaksa lah we get another room. The pool was quite nice too.

The hotel came with a complimentary shuttle bus to Disneyland, walking distant to the factory outlet and a huge mall that we can never manage to explore.  There is a nice bakery just across the hotel, which kita mandang beli corssaint and roti perancis. Eh dah kat Perancis mestilah beli roti perancis.

Sigh.... Disney store.. where parents with little girls pocket get burnt!

Amsterdam 2015

This is so basi but since its in my draft post I am gonna just finish it up and publish it.

We book an apartment via airbnb, location was great, tram station was just 3 minutes away (though we explored the city by foot most of the time, nak putus pinggang I), a kebab store at our door steps, a Mexican whose owner is a Muslim, is just few minutes walk away. There is a huge supermarket just across the road.

The apartment came with 2 cats and 2 bicycle. It was great fun. The only thing that is not fun is the weather. It was so so hot, panas terik, lagi panas dari Singapore.

We went to the usual attractions, Dam square, museums, shopping centres, fleas markets, bla bla. This was our second trip to Amsterdam, the last trip during our honeymoon was in January, it was freezing cold,

S went for his record hunting while I went for my  HEMA and flea market hunt. I loveeeee their market. I bought 3 used Birkenstock for 20 euros. I saw S made a face, he is not anti-fleas but to him, with a few extra bucks you can get a brand new Birkenstock. A few extra bucks? Where got extra, quite a lot also lah. I love their street food. At Albertcyp Market, their Dutch pancake that is smothered with butter and powder sugar was too die for, their croquet is worth the q's and there are a few stall selling halal chicken, roasted, bbqes, with herbs, fried dan bermacam macam lagi.

Ny had ice-cream and gelato every day. I know I am a bad parent but we were on a holiday. I had churos everyday too. Yummy.

We bought burgers and ate at the right in front of De Bijenkorf mall, Ny playing with pigeons and the parent enjoying the calories pack kebab burger. We were approached by an Indonesian when she say S smoking a pack of Soemporna. 'Ur Asian bro?' Kita Nampak Mexican ker? So another friendship was made. She just finish her Uni and was here to work. Her sister is currently staying and working here. 'Sini a lot of Indonesian ah' 'Banyak dong!' She was hype when we say 'Woles boss' That's indon lingo for No problem. We exchange facebook account. Kental betol.

We chill at vondelpark and people watch almost everyday. Since its in the summer, even at 9pm it was very bright macam pukul 6pm. The day seems too long for me. But the shop still closed at 8pm some even at 6pm.

The best place that attract us the most was the:-

Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam

The Rijksmuseum, which in English means – The State Museum, exists for more that two hundred years and today belongs to the most breath taking museums in the world. During its existence, the museum went through many transformations and remains now, especially after its complete renovation, the attraction you should not miss during your trip to the Netherlands

Its not what that is inside the museum that interest us, we are not that arty farty kind. Oh but I love their exhibition on  Miffy. What is outside the museum plain that excite us. Located at the Museumplein are three major museums - the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum - and the concert hall Concertgebouw.

The whole square was abuzz with life, it was the best time to go for wandering around yummy food stalls and watching free live music. There was a huge playground area and water fountain. S and Ny was adventurous enough to get into the pond and take a picture.

There was a group of hippies basking by making large soap bubbles. That was a major hit for the kids and even for the parent. We spent hours catching bubbles. The air was thick with the smell of  the 'only legal in Amsterdam' thingy. At one point Ny will scream 'Bau apa ni? Busuknya!'

We made a couple of friends along the way, who invited us over for some party. Tak apa kirim salam, takut pulak, teringat citer 'TAKEN' dah nanti si atok Nyla kena travel pergi Europe carik, anak, cucu and menantu dia.

It was a perfect time to ride the canal boat/cruise. We even purchase the tickets when little Ms decide to throw a fit while we were q-ing to jump into the boat 'NYYA TAK NAK AH, ADA CROCODILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!' I macam nak NGAP dia at that instance!

After 6 days in Amsterdam, we packed out bag, kiss the house cats, rode the tram and head down to Amsterdam central station to catch a train to PARIS!!!!

Paris 2015

Song: No Rain - Blind Melon

Right after Amsterdam, we travel via eurorail to the land of Laduree. Spent 3 days in central Paris and 4 days at Marne-la-Vallée. This time our trip is very relek rolek, very slow very steady. I like it this way.

Amsterdam 2015

Song: Best day of my life - American authors
I cant belive that I have 12 draft post in my draft inbox.
First thing first.... We had a blast during our Europe trip in early August 2015.

Oh my eyes...... Please excuse the typo and the scratches on the camera lens. Enjoy.

Memories

Before Nyla was born, I barely took photos on special occasions, let alone our daily life. The camera was stored sampai lah berabuk!
But when you have a baby, you get camera happy and all-of-a-sudden daily life seems way more interesting.
I took thousands of pictures of Little Ny, during my maternity leave. First baby lah katakan. 24 jam amik gambar.
With everything being so virtual these days, I love that we can capture memories so quickly and easily with just a click with our Iphone, but digital photos can get lost in the abyss of our phone and computer memories. My Mac got jammed twice due to fully loaded pictures.
My late atok used to be a photographer for Utusan Malaya. I was not given an opportunity to meet my late atok, semoga rohnya dicucuri rahmat, but I have seen his works. My dad and aunties still keep piles and piles of photo albums. I love flipping through old photo albums of our family,
I had the same sentiment. I want to be able to preserve these memories for my kids to be able to look back at some day, too.
I printed most of the pictures from snapfish, fotohubs, kedai bawah block. I even bought a canon selphy printer to print all the pictures.
Now my current obsession is the photo book. I even print an additional set for my Datin for Mother's Day, showcasing pictures of our holiday together, picture of us adik beradik, pictures of her first kiss with Nyla, the first time dia mandi kan nyla, aisey touching pulak.
Photobook purchase from Groupon. From $6 to $19.90 from Photobook. http://www.photobooksingapore.com/

Tag Post- Travel

just realised That i was tagged by the fabulous mak Darya and since it is a Friday, hari paling malas nak kerja, I busied myself with these... Hohoho....

What made you start traveling?
Its the adrenaline rush, its how u feel when you count down to the date of your departure. Mengeletis semacam.

I don't have the privilege to travel when I was young. My dad used to sail in his golden years. He will show me pictures of all his escapades to different country.

"Bestnya yah!!!"

So that feeling to see the world has always been harboured in me. Once I earned my own money, the gate opens....

Where was your first plane ride to?
Cant really remember my first, maybe tu zaman jepun agaknya.. sampai tak ingat langsung either that or the plane was too short of a journey for me to recollect the memory.

I only remember my longest plane ride was to Sydney, Australia for my overseas attachment during my poly days. I was attached in Sydney for 2 months

Best memories to date.. sebab first time  dapat keluar kandang.

Where have you travelled to that you would love to visit again?
I don't mind going to all the countries that I have been again and again and again.

But If I was to choose just one, I will say Mecca, ini bukan nak action baik. Ini ikhlas from hati one.

Ny was just 2 when we went in 2013, my hati always tak tenteram. I always have to check on Ny. Every solat, my eyes try to catch a glimpse of her. When she moved, my heart skip a beat and I need to stop my solat and chase after her. Not all the time, Ada lah dua tiga kali. Nak gugur jantung. That's why I make it a point to sit and Solat next to families with children, so that Ny Ada friends to play with. I can concentrate doing my ibadah.

And while doing tawaf and sa'ie, carrying a back then 18kg kid on my hip is really no joke. I do have strangers offering to help carry Ny. Mati I kalau jorang bawak ker mana. S was with my dad. So its just me and my sisters to take turn to carry her.

So yes, if Allah SWT invite me again, I would love love love to go again.

What are 3 of your must have travel items?
Passport, cash, phone tak kira eh... that one must have one.... necessities.

My 3 items:-
1. Camera - To capture all the memories
2. Wet wipes - MUST
3. Minyak angin - MUST MUST!!! Because I very the makcik makcik like that.

Window, isle or middle seat?
When I was single, of course lah window seat. Kan best feeling feeling tepi tingkap, can see the clouds, the rays, can see carebear, can see unicorn.

Now that I am a mum, isle seat is perfect!!!!!! Senang to keluar masok to use the toilet or to ask for hot water without any 'tsk' by S.

What place is on your 'places to visit next' list?
Oh the list can go on and on and on... I would love to go to LA, San Frans, Turkey, Istanbul, Venice, Italy, Rome...

Right now the little sis is in Frankfurt and she just text me like a few seconds ago 'Its so happening here Long, You would love it' so Frankfurt just made into the list.

Where would you travel just for the weather?
I love cool weather, I have 6 boots collecting dust in my storeroom and many winter wear together with snow caps, mufflers, gloves. So anywhere cold would be perfect for me, plus point my make up stays thru out the day.

All of the above minus the dry and dehydrated skin, peeling lips, cold sore, slippery walkways, frequent slipping, running nose that will often leads to sore throat asalkan dapat melaram with coats.

So yeah any county with cold weather would be great.

Do you have an interesting 'I'm lost' story?
I am always lost, lagi lagi with S.

But the best would be when the whole family got lost while we were in Paris. With heavy luggage, we went round and round the many many rues to look for our hotel. We left our Paris map in London, with all the notes and all. So we relly on lousy information counter maps that was written in French.

U imagine makcik, pakcik, and baby kalau dah penat and dah lost. Imagine how kecoh it gets, plus the whining, the crying, the blaming.

By the time we found the hotel, We were so tired and when we saw the Eiffel tower from the hotel window my mum commented,

" Ah dah tengok kan pagar besi tu, dah puas, ah jom balik "

Where would you travel to just to eat the food?
Jakarta for nasi padang, and the tepi jalan satay stall... sedap menjilat pinggan.

Japan for the sushi and tokoyaki balls - Original punya... pasar malam punya tokoyaki kalah. Kalah Teruk!

Thailand for the tom yam and coconut ice cream.

France for the pastries and kebab on French loaf... Works I tell you.

Australia for their Australia meet pie.. Halal one of course.

Amsterdam for their Dutch pancake and fries with their marvelous mayo. Space cake not included.

Is there a place you would never go again?

I had a bad case of food poisoning when I was in Bandung. At that time I was 5 months pregnant with Ny.

" I am so not coming back here, never ever ever ever in the whole wide universe of the universetest "

And for the past 3 years I have been asking S to return to Bandung.

Not fair seh, I was sick mah, I can't enjoy all the factory outlets, of course lah I bingit. Jom lah kita go again "

If you could take one person with you to travel who would it be?
Me and Ny, we are one person.

My sisters, hand down. Both of them, I consider them as one person.

My youngest sis, she travel a lot so she is excellent with planning and maps and  directions.

The other sis, she is excellent with managing budget, and she always have lubang for best deals. She is a people person, excellent PR. With her, we often make new friends who will give us best tips.

How do you pass the time on the airplane?
When I was single, I will always have a book with me. When I am bored with the in flight entertainment, I will turn to my book.

But now with Ny, layan kan ajer.....

Are there other people whom you think would do this?
I don't have many bloggers frens. So who ever is reading this feel free to do this. You... Yes you.

Stay Connected

I was connected to wifi 24/7 while I was in Japan.

I am very active with group chat in whatsapp and they were surprised that I managed to get connected and reply to all their chat. So yeay... I was still in the loop of the latest gossip.

The hotel that we booked have no Wi-Fi in the room only at the lobby. So leceh. And with a kid who need her Hi-5, Upin and Ipin and Dora fix and grandparents yang asyik 24/7 nak face time the cucu. Dah face time with the atok and the nenek and the bibik. Si aunty ngah dia pulak nak face time, In less than 15 mins the aunty chu pulak face time 'Nyyyyyy what are you doing? Do you miss me???'

Wah liow.

There are several free Wi-Fi services such as Freespot but these services will most likely require pre-registration and are generally less reliable (think Wireless@SG). Their Starbucks, their fast foods, dah lah no Internet macam mana nak register. Aiyo.

So we went the easy way and rent a pocket Wi-Fi. The best option and decision I made. The kids happy, the father happy can show off on Instagram. Sempat member post picture time dalam train nak go Shibuya. Sempat post gambar kat luar kedai record... eh that one the mummy.

There are several website that provide Wi-Fi portable router. Good feed backs received from Global Advanced Communications but since the period we went was during the peak Sakura season, all 21Mbps were sold out.

Next best feedback was from Japan-wireless. Book, pay, settle. The router can be connected to 5 devices. The best thing is that they even provide a spare battery FOC.

You can choose to pick up the router at the Airport or directly to your hotel. We choose the later.

Once we reached the hotel, the package was included during our check in. The connection name was given together with a password, and that it, you are connected to the world.

We returned it by enclosing the device in a postage-paid envelope that came with the device and dropping that at the mailbox at the airport or just pass it over at the hotel reception. Fuss-free. Other companies offering the service are Exseli, Rentafont Japan and PuPuRu. Banyak lah actually just google.

Disneyland and Disneysea

Oh the optimal of the trip is definitely the day we visited Disneyland.

We took the train via Yamamonte line towards Tokyo and change to keiyo line towards Soga to Maihama station. It was an hour plus trip. Due to the long journey, pergi balik, angkut bag, angkut stroller, angkut semuanya, I decide to book a hotel near to the area. Tak larat babe. Nak book disney resort hotel macam wasted (bukan wasted, tak mampu). Since we're just staying for a night, I book a reasonably price hotel located just 10 mins walk from the Maihama station. Plus point they provide shuttle bus from the hotel to Maihama Station, Disneyland and DisneySea. Once you exit the Maihama station go down to basement to the North Exit and wait at the clock tower. I am truly pleased with the hotel, they even provide leg massager in the room. Perfect after a very tiring day at Disney. Eh enough about the hotel. Macam tulis trip review Kat trip advisor pulak.

Please book your ticket in advance, the q was mad, even on a weekday. I purchase 2 day pass, 1st day to Disneyland and 2nd day to DisneySea via online. You just need to print the ticket and proceed to the counter, where they will check you bag and wahlahhh you are in. Tak payah line up, line up.

With a kid, it will slow everything down, numerous toilet breaks, a few tantrums, nak dukung, nak hug, nak tak rides with 80 mins waiting time. With the cold weather and carrying a 20 kg toddler and a hungry stomach, fuh betol punya testing gua punya sabar. So please go makan first before heading to Disney. No halal food though. So pandai pandai.

Ny just made the height requirement of 103cm, That means, a blue tag around the wrist Which indicate she can take most of the rides.

We love the parade, we even stayed for the night parade.

S can't stand all these jepun girls who go gaga with all the mascots. 'Eh apasal ni sampai nak mintak mintak autograph ni? They know or not all these are man in suits' 'Seriously ah, that fanatic' Malas aku nak layan membebel dia. I also nak amik gambar with them. Sanggup babe tunggu sampai 1 hour. Berangin ajer si S.

We were greeted with the mascots at the entrance at Disneyland. Apa Lagi. Amik ler gambar.

The sis personally prefer DisneySea. No, don't expect whales and dolphins. It's more to water shows, little mermaids and stuffs. Lots of performance and shows by the Disney character. The mascots walks around freely, just grab them and snap your pictures. Surprisingly there were more crowds in DisneySea than Disneyland.

To choose between the 2 theme parks. I would prefer Disneyland. Easy. Love the classic. In love with fairy tale castle and happily ever after.

After the trip we open a flood gate in Ny.... semua nak princess. Princess ini, princess itu...feeling habis!!!!
