Top of the world

It was snowing the day before. Snow storm. I tell you. Even the New Yorkers were puzzled on why it was still snowing even in March. They were expecting sunny day through out the month.

The following day was a perfect day for sightseeing, it was cloudy but the temperature was still below 5 degrees. The balls were freezing!!!

We visited Rockefeller Centre, Top of the Rock. This is one of those venues that you can get by with experiencing once, and then you are good for the rest of your life.

The entryway to the 70-floor building is flanked by the iconic Rockefeller Centre ice skating ring, mall, and NBC Studios. Ramai orang lepak lepak there. Pakkal tak tau skate.

As soon as we entered, there was some confusion as to where to go. We each purchased in advance a New York Pass, a booklet that would get us into 6 must visit places in the city so that we didn't have to wait in line for tickets this was included in the price.. Upon entry, we noted that the signs that were posted were a bit convoluted. We didn't know if we should get in line to take the elevators upward, or if we should check in with someone first to validate our passes. So confusing.. So macam biasa si bini ni lah yang kena excuse me sana, excuse me sini. The husband only can say;

'Malas bertanya sesat jalan'
'Den you go and ask lah'
'Jorang lagi suka kalau pompuan tanya'
'Benci lah'

After the gaduh gaduh sayang, an elevator shuttled us up a couple of floors where we had to pass through a security checkpoint. Good grief! The inspection was so through. Sungguh the leceh. Then there were a short documentary on the history of Rockerfella.

The elevator ride up to the rock is interesting. It is a mini countdown, I almost felt like I was Charlie in the glass elevator. Believe it or not since you are going so high you do get that ugly feeling in your gut when you go back down. I just clenched on to the rail when that happened. Once dah sampai....OOOH MY WORD, the view is breathtaking I tell you.

You really get a whole view of all of Manhattan, parts of Brooklyn, the bridges, Central Park, and the Empire state building, this is just to name a few of the things you see. The city is beautiful and being up at the Rock you really get to appreciate and take in all the views of the city and the history that comes along with it.

The edge was separated with glass panel and not some fencing (Empire State Building) that gets in a way when you take pictures.

We were surprised that after all the walking, we were still game for another adventure, so we decide to view the skyline at night from the Empire State Building. Another must go. Empire State Building, is also included in the New York Pass. All my life I have called this Building 'The King Kong Building' Ingat tak citer king kong, yang dia bergayut kat building tu.

We went at 11.30pm. The building closes at 2am and the last lift was at 1.15am. It was super smooth, no que, no rush, security as usual is a bitch, more thorough than Top of the Rock, jacket jacket semua kena bukak. The building and the lift is a bit ol skol as compared to TOTR and security was tighter.

But once we reach the top floor, we were greated with breathe taking view and strong and very very cold wind. Mengigil babe. It was a totally different experience to view the same thing during the day and at night. Looking down the city that high up and lit up like that was amazing!!!

If your time is limited in NYC and you have to choose between Top of the Rock and Empire State. Top of the Rock wins hand down.
