I was surprise when I caught myself buying cushion covers, sofa throws, door mats. Seperti kata boss Ola lola, kita ni dah jadi makcik makcik cool. >.<
During the Winter, the flea was held at the old Savings bank, One Sky Hanson. With Barclays right around the corner and tons of other shopping nearby (Target heaven, VS, Bath and Body Work), its a great stop during our visit to the area (but not so great for the wallet). The building is cool, with lots of skylights, you see all the old tellers and the vault. It has 3 stories of good vintage stuff. I was in awe.
In the summer, the Brooklyn flea market will be held at the waterfront at Fort green. S was disappointed, he prefer the outdoor flea. But its was freaking cold sapa yang kuasa nak jalan jalan kat luar.
In my opinion calling this place a Flea Market, is a bit of a mistake, because it's more of an arty/vintage/antique market if you ask me. You can find interesting pieces of modern/creative jewellery as well as your vintage or antique items. And there's a bit of everything: furniture, clothes, hats, food, ornaments, etc and it's just big enough to spend enough money to feel satisfied. Comparing with a real flea market, it's slightly more pricey.
S was at his grounds. There were several booths selling cool skate stuffs and records. Oh the records collection was off the roof. We bought close to a dozen of records. It was dirt cheap. USD4-7 per record, mana nak dapat that price in SG. S went through crates after crates of record. As the obedient wife, I relek one corner sambil makan donuts.
I found some owesome pawsone, cake stand (Yes, I angkut that thing. S was shaking his head sambil membebel 'Macam Singapore tak ada'), 5 bucks babe, mana nak dapat kat Singapore, Animal cushions for Nyla, that one also 5 bucks each from this talented lady who personally design and jahit that thingy, shabby chic photo frames, suka sangat and some vintage tshirts at 1 bucks each.
In Manhattan, another good flea is the hell's kitchen flea markets and the green flea at Columbus Ave. But the selection was not as fantastic as the one at Brooklyn.
I have always enjoy Flea markets. It is a unique experience that the mall just can't offer. Its a fun activity to check out some weird shit, eat great food, and you may just find that special piece that speaks to you. Sigh... I miss that old skool Clark quey flea market that S and myself used to frequent during our dating years.
that's it! i am going to new york next! hahaha!
